Andy:

Hi I'm Andy Hendricks. What do you do? 

 

Martin:

I'm a reporter. What do you do?

 

Andy:

I'm a machine operator.

 

Martin:

Good. I'm happy to meet you.

 

Andy:

Thanks.

 

Melanie:

This is Amy Bergman.

 

Martin:

Hello. I'm Martin Learner.

 

Amy:

Hello. How are you?

 

Martin:

Fine thanks. How are you?

 

Amy:

Fine thanks. How are you Melanie?

 

Melanie:

Fine thanks.

 

Martin:

What do you do?

 

Amy:

I'm a driver. What do you do?

 

Martin:

I'm a reporter.

 

Amy:

Oh, Good.

There are several ways to ask what work people do and to answer such a question. You should learn the easiest way in the beginning. Listen again.

Can you ask the question "What do you do?" First ask Martin, then ask Andy, then ask Amy. Ask Martin now.

Melanie:

Good morning, Bill. How are you?

 

BILL:

Fine thanks. How are you?

 

Melanie:

Fine thanks. Bill, this is Martin Learner. He's a reporter.

 

BILL:

Hello. I'm happy to meet you.

 

Martin:

Good morning. I'm happy to meet you too. What do you do?

 

Melanie:

He's a grinder.

 

Martin:

Pardon?

 

Melanie:

He's a grinder.
